Japan's telecommunications industry is looking closely at a next-generation Internet standard: Internet Protocol, version 6 (IPv6).
In Japan, operators have admitted to three challenges: operators don't want to offer IPv6 services until there are applications and users; consumer electronics makers don't want to commit to products compatible with IPv6 without adequate network coverage or users; and users won't buy into it unless it's cheap and useful.
