The IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6) task force set up by the Commission issued on 5 November a report on progress made in the completion of this new Internet protocol.
The report issued by the IPv6 task force follows a January 2002 recommendation by Commissioner Liikanen to "ensure that Europe's competitiveness in wireless technology is not jeopardised by the lack of a clear roadmap towards IPv6." The report welcomes recent developments in European research but points out the lack of deployment in commercial applications.
