The Internet's new communication technology, IPv6, is coming -- whether CIOs are ready or not. But being ready could save you millions and reduce security risks.

In June 2003, John Stenbit, then CIO of the Department of Defense (DoD), announced that the department would move to Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6), a next-generation Internet communication technology, by 2008.
